Eulogy for President Reagan
Editor,
Time will confirm that President Ronald Reagan was the greatest leader of our country in the modern era. He demonstrated the ability of one man to create a tremendous positive impact--Parallel to the accomplishments of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, whose company Reagan will be grouped with when prominent historical periods of the United States are discussed.
On the domestic front, Reagan restructured the entire tax code (Lowering the rate of all individuals and closing the business loop holes)--resulting in huge employment growth and increased tax revenues. The resulting increase in revenue will be repeated again once President George W. Bush’s tax cuts continue driving the economy. Reagan protected key U.S. industries by implementing quotas on some foreign goods, defending our steel industry and literally saving Harley Davidson. He also strengthened the moral foundation in our country by, among other things, slowing down the abortion rate (A fact that should be applauded by both Pro-Life and Pro-Choice movements), reduced the size of government bureaucracy, built the military back up to the standard it deserves as the world superpower, and restored the faith and patriotism instilled by our founding fathers.
Reagan’s foreign policy will always overshadow his other accomplishments because of the enormous positive impact he had worldwide. He instantly freed the hostages in Iran; strengthened our friendships with democracies throughout the globe, particularly with Great Britain; assisted in the communist overthrow in Poland; responded to terrorist’s attacks with swift retaliation; personally conceived SDI, forcing the Soviet Union into bankruptcy and resulting annihilation as a communist threat; and fought hard for democratic ideals anywhere possible.
He was a man we respected and who gave honor and prestige to Office of President, which he himself revered. Reagan also believed in the people of America, demonstrated the traditional values of our system, and always followed through with what he believed was the right thing to do. Alzheimer’s stole his leadership from us as a civilian over the past few years and his death is truly a final great loss for all of us. Hopefully we will continue to learn from the courage and strength he always demonstrated.
God Bless Ronald Reagan and the United States of America.

General MacArthur
Editor:
This quote from over forty years ago is even more relevant today when we look at the financial bailouts the government keeps jamming down our throats and into our pocketbooks:
“They no longer believe that free men can successfully manage their own affairs. Their thesis is that a handful of men, centered in government, largely bureaucratic not elected, can utilize the proceeds of our toil and labor to greater advantage than those who create it. Nowhere in the history of the human race is there justification for this reckless faith in political power. It is the oldest, most reactionary of all forms of social organization. It was tried out in ancient Babylon, ancient Greece and ancient Rome; in Mussolini’s Italy, in Hitler’s Germany, and in all communist countries. Wherever and whenever it has been attempted, it has failed utterly to provide economic security, and had generally ended in national disaster. It embraces an essential idiocy, that individuals who, as private citizens, are not to manage the disposition of their own earnings, become in public office supermen who can manage the affairs of the world.”

Superman Returns (without morals)
Editor:
Past Clevelanders, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman, must be turning in their graves at the farce Warner Bros. Entertainment has made out of their character in the movie “Superman Returns.”
During the movie, The Daily Planet Editor, Perry White, speaks of Superman’s defense of “Truth, Justice…,” but leaves out the wholesome, freedom fighting exclamation point of “The American Way!” Of course, this makes anyone with any minimal comic book knowledge furious….that is, until you really get upset once you see what they made this so-called “Superman” actually stand for.
The “hero” in this movie is so gutless, he leaves Earth for five years without being able to face saying goodbye to those he loved; we found out he creeps around peoples houses so he can eavesdrop and peep in the windows; he apparently doesn’t show up for a scheduled parole board hearing (weak plot point!); and he fathers a child out of wedlock!
DC Comics should be ashamed for allowing an icon like Superman to be presented in this fashion. It was totally unnecessary to make the movie a blockbuster. Warner Bros. should have taken a script from the old Siegel and Shuster days and made a movie about the real Superman…the one with American ideals.

Global Warming Hoax
Editor:
I couldn’t disagree any stronger with Brittina Helgeson’s letter to the editor stating that the United States should join the Kyoto Protocol.
First of all, the 0.74 degree Celsius increase in temperature over the past 100 years, just like the Global Cooling scares of 1924 and 1974, is a normal temperature fluctuation caused by sun spot activity 93,000,000 miles away. Until we can control that, it doesn’t matter if I drive an SUV or a moped to work.
On top of that, 13 of the 15 EU Nations have missed their emission targets. And the largest emitter of CO2 gases, China, is exempt from the treaty altogether!
Why would we want to destroy an already struggling economy by supporting an unnecessary and useless Global Warming Fairy Tail Treaty? We won’t.

Nixon and Israel
Editor:
So the unjustified bashing of our 37th President, Richard M. Nixon, continues.
On May 27, The Plain Dealer published an Associated Press article titled, “Nixon drunk during crisis in Mideast.” The story surrounds the Arab-Israeli War started when Egyptian and Syrian troops attacked Israel, but the entire report ignores President Nixon’s strategy and decisions that led to Israel’s victory and eventual peace between the nations.
After Soviet airlifting operations sending arms to Egypt and Syria, Israel was in desperate need of significant assistance. On October 12, 1972 (The day after Henry Kissinger reportedly stated that Nixon was “loaded”); President Nixon rejected advice from the Department of Defense and his own staff, including Kissinger’s, that we only send three C-5A planeloads of arms to Israel. This advice was based on political ramifications of our Arab relations, which were deteriorating with the Arab oil embargo. Nixon rejected this recommendation and decided to send 30 C-5As, “everything that can fly,” loaded with arms for Israel. Nixon ended up sending an incredible amount of support with the 550-mission airlift of arms.
That decision based on moral objectives, American ethics, and long-term strategic goals in mind; helped Israel win the war and was key to the U.S. led diplomacy that resulted in mutual withdraw agreements. Let’s give a true perspective on history and the men who lived it a balanced accounting of their accomplishments.

Obama Digs Us Deeper
Editor:
Just when you think our government can’t get any worse….
Now, the current administration has proposed an almost $4 trillion dollar budget for just one year! This is projected to make the annual deficit over $1.5 Trillion and the overall debt $15.6 Trillion by next year…an increase of over $6 Trillion in only three years. This is inconceivable and outrageous.
We wasted much of this money on corporate bail outs the government had no business getting involved in, and we still have had nine straight months of double-digit unemployment in Ohio.
The President purposely misled the American people and called out the Supreme Court in a situation where he was certain he could not be immediately corrected. It says a lot that the Justices were even able to stay seated during this unprecedented and inappropriate attack.
This is on top of the administration’s desperate attempts to take over our entire health care system, which the American people do not want.
Now Obama is pushing the elimination of the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” standard for homosexuals serving in the military.
Everyone needs to get involved and stop this attempted destruction of our great country. Feel free to help us take back at least Ohio’s 13th district by checking out our web site at www.billhaney.org. We can’t let this continue.
God Bless America,

True Conservatism
Editor:
In a recent speech, Tom Ganley was quoted as saying he was “the most conservative” candidate in the 13th Congressional race.
Considering the fact that he benefited personally and professionally from the $3 billion Cash for Clunkers program and during his short-lived Senate campaign called the program a success, you have to wonder how he defines that word. Apparently he means the spending kind of conservatism displayed by President George W. Bush.
Our campaign, on the other hand, is based on President Ronald Reagan’s type of conservatism as outlined at www.billhaney.org<http://www.billhaney.org/>. We have every detail outlining our definition under three main principles: Traditional Family Values, Fiscal Responsibility, and America First Foreign and Domestic Policies.
Let’s see how the voters define conservatism during the Primary on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. I think our campaign holds the true Republican values.
